Casting Choices / Character Profile(s)
Casting wasn't necessarily a choice; my Granddad was cast in the film through my initial idea and the enthusiasm and excitement he showed when I mentioned the possibility of the project. He immediately began talking and discussing his time in the players', which then progressed the idea for the project and influenced the initial questions I had for him as well as which performances and memories I wanted him to speak about in particular.
Another casting choice is including interviews with other people, but now that the angle/purpose of my documentary has changed, these may have to be dropped from the final cut, as to not disrupt the continuity of the film.
In terms of character profiles, I told my Granddad to be himself. In some of the archive footage he is portraying different characters within the performances, but throughout the duration of the film in present day, he is himself.
