The narrative of the documentary is non-linear, as there will be uses of flashback to the archive footage, interspersed among the present day footage. In terms of narrative theory, you can partially apply some of the theorists to the film:
- Levi-Strauss - Binary Opposites:
- Good Health vs Bad Health
- Granddad vs Illness
- Propp - Character Roles & Functions:
- Hero - Granddad
- Villain - Parkinsons/Lewy Body Dementia
Sound Application
- Dialogue:
- Interview with my Granddad (at his house and the Theatre Royal)
- Interview with Peter (if included, who was in the Attleborough Players at the same time as my Granddad)
- Ambience:
- Background noise, e.g. there was some renovation work being carried out in the Theatre Royal whilst we were filming there
- Narration:
- I might pair some of the narration with title cards, or use title cards to replace the narration
- Explain:
- how he was before the illness
- define the illness and what it is
- how the illness has effected him and those around him
