Discussing the Pitch:
The feedback from the pitch has been useful and informative. It has made me consider some of the choices that I am planning on making when editing the film; for example, I'm going to consider showing his condition in reverse, from his worst (where he is now) to where he was before. I will also make it clear with the flashbacks to the archive footage that the narrative is non-linear so the audience is aware of this - I may do this with fade transitions between the present and past footage.
The message behind the film is not totally decided yet, but I feel that both messages could be portrayed within the film. I feel that some audience members would be able to identify with the situation portrayed, as they may also have relatives with Dementia/Parkinsons. The message could be that they are not alone, but it also shows those who may have a relative not yet diagnosed with Dementia/Parkinsons to spend time with their loved ones while they can, as the illness/diagnosis could be unexpected. Another interpretation is that it could be a celebration of life - a memory of who he was before the Dementia/Parkinsons.
I know that I want to make sure that the film is as naturalistic as possible to portray realism. I may do this by showing some self-reflexivity, but this may take away from the message of the film; if I decide to include a self-reflexive element, it will be through narration.
